Three JavaScript packages have been removed from the npm portal for containing malicious code

Three JavaScript libraries found on the npm portal -- plutov-slack-client, nodetest199 and nodetest1010 -- opened shells on the computers of developers who imported the packages into their projects. The npm security team have removed the package, but are warning users that there is no guarantee this will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.

Compute Module 4 has been released from Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi Foundation launched a new product Monday: the Compute Module 4. Just like the Raspberry Pi 4, it features a 64-bit ARM-based processor with VideoCore VI graphics. The Compute Module 4 is available with your choice of 1, 2, 4 or 8 gigabytes RAM, and 8, 16 or 32 gigabytes on-board eMMC flash storage. WiFi and Bluetooth are also optional. The price ranges from just $25 to $90 USD.

White-hat hackers had the run of Apple's corporate network for months

For months, Apple’s corporate network was at risk of hacks that could have stolen sensitive data from potentially millions of its customers and executed malicious code on their phones and computers. The company has so far processed about half of the vulnerabilities and committed to paying $288,500 for them. Once Apple processes the remainder, Curry said, the total payout might surpass a half million dollars.

UK-based computer chip designer ARM Holdings is being sold to the American graphics chip specialist Nvidia. The deal values ARM at $40bn, four years after it was bought by Japanese conglomerate Softbank for $32bn.

Microsoft's underwater data centre has resurfaced after two years: A success!

Two years ago, Microsoft sank a data centre off the coast of Orkney in a wild experiment. That data centre has now been retrieved from the ocean floor, and Microsoft researchers have found that just eight out of the 855 servers on board had failed; 1/8th the failure rate of a land-based equivalent.
