Despite internet issues, the show goes on. bp9 still needs to get encryption and signing working on his client server app but wants to focus on the data exchange algorithm first. Doug is here so he gets to see the keyboard for his Raspberry Pi, but he already got a new one. Now he needs to fix DRM on his browser. Solbu attended a funeral this week: our condolences. Peter is using nasty chemicals to etch the PCB for his antenna switcher and is also dealing with major dental issues. bp9s PinePhone is working well but its software center severely limits app choices. bp9 is joined by Doug, Peter and Solbu.

bp9 and Peter chat about his homebrew antenna switching solution until Solbu shows up, fashionably late. bp9 shows off the "Think Outside" keyboard but Doug is not here to see it. We talk about old solar powered calculators and mapping solutions that use vector-based data to draw roads instead of raster (tiles consisting of images of maps). Solbu and bp9 discuss his client/server app and insists that signing the encrypted packets is the best solution. Also describes how open source helps all projects, big and small. bp9 is joined by Peter and Solbu.

It's a real pleasure to welcome Sasha back to Coffee Break, and she talks about all the junk food she gets to make with her new Kitchen appliances. Winter hasn't struck them yet. Doug's keyboard for RasPi saga continues. He's up to three tries now. Doug also explains NOT to use essential oils in a diffuser if you have a cat. bp9 and Solbu discuss his encrypted client/server solution to see if it is enough to prove the identity of the client. Peter continues to have antenna woes but it is working well enough for him to talk to Ceylon and Oman. bp9 is joined by Sasha, Doug, Peter, and Solbu.

In the first Coffee Break for 2021, bp9 understands his garage door opener a bit better, talks twitch and will likely use SSH port forwarding for his client/sever initially. Doug's remote keyboard looks to be having issues on Linux so RasPi is not working for him yet. Peter talks about dangers of PCB manufacturing at home. There are PCB manufacturers who can do the job safely. Also built password generator. Solbu wakes up in time to join us and learns about twoku for twitch on roku. bp9 is joined by Doug, Peter, and Solbu.

In the last Coffee Break for 2020, bp9 is trying to understand the circuit of his garage door opener, and still hard at work on his encrypted client/server project. No shared key here, but rather a proper public/private key like SSH. Did Solbu fall asleep again? Reminds everyone that Robbie has been crazy buzy, not taking a break. Doug is waiting on fan and heatsinks for his RasPi. Peter reminds bp9 to use opto-isolators and talks more about circuits, Synology and lightning. Doug replaces his Roku with a Raspberry Pi because he can do more on it than the Roku. Alexis tries to jump in to help him out. bp9 likes Plex and is happy to run the free version. Also talks about gopher, the predecessor to WWW. Peter and bp9 work together to identify components on bp9's garage door opener that was struck by lightning. Stormy comes late to the party and explains how to wipe an old IDE drive in a Pentium III machine. bp9 is joined by Doug Townsend, Peter Lewis, and Stormy.

bp9 fell into the youtube rabbit hole again, looking at Rube Goldberg marble music machines. Also shows off his Tandy WP-2, and revisits his client/server app, now using GnuTLS. Discussion turns towards Gnu, Wilderbeasts and the "I'm a Gnu" song. Peter is talking to New Zealand on his ham radio and describes a bomb scare! Solbu explains the advantages of running your own email server. Doug is glorious in sunshine and is playing with his new Raspberry Pi 3. bp9 is joined by Doug, Peter, and Solbu.

bp9 talks about docker vs. virtual machines, and we talk about the pros and cons of each approach. bp9 likes to build programs that run on both Windows and linux using GTK2 or GTK3. Also shows off his NADSBox, and his cat. Doug describes VENTOY, which allows you to mount many ISOs to an SD-Card and boot off any one of them. Peter asks about sound support in GTK2/3 and bp9 doesn't think it's possible. Repairs on his antenna are going well except for shipping of parts. Solbu is late (again) and is a ghost on Voyagers bridge. Solbu describes the fun of loading Win95 from floppies, and the dangers of backing up machines to each other. bp9 is joined by Doug, Peter, and Solbu.

We get to catch up with Sasha this week and she shows off the renovations on her house and the gorgeous views. Her hubby catches fish that almost literally jump out of the sea. Solbu explains the ins and outs of running your own mail server and bp9 definitely wants to pick his brains some more about that. Peter is still having issues with his ham radio antenna and keeps dropping UK-local jokes. Sadly, Doug has lost one of his cats, but still has one. bp9 is joined by Sasha, Peter, Doug, and Solbu.

bp9 shows off his latest attempt at integrating Model 100 with MVT100 and 7-inch VGA screen and concludes it's not as portable as he had hoped, once you add all the wires in. Peter got his ham radio antenna fixed for now. Doug is mostly listening this week. Solbu weighs in on the right-to-repair issue and notes that it is critical that folks who can do it safely be allowed to repair their own devices. Robbie shows up late and shows off his new open-source Lastline backup NAS, along with his 3D printing skills for a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch drive tray adapter.
