  • Feature:  The 2009 line of Panda Security products for Windows.
  • Checking in on Robbie's progress in Entropia Universe.

NEW FEATURE:  Read the chat logs

Topics Covered:

  • The Perfect Hardy, the Script.  Easily install multimedia stuff in your Ubuntu Hardy computer.  (Did you catch Robbie's goof?  Read the notes below!)
  • An update on Robbie's progress in Entropia Universe after one week of playing.
  • Interview:     RexDameon (Entropia Universe player) talks about Entropia Universe.
  • Announcing the in-game meet of Category5 viewers with Robbie in Entropia Universe.
  • Viewer Question:  I'm using Avant Window Navigator.  How can I add programs to the dockbar?
  • Creating launchers for Avant Window Navigator -- the easy way.  (Even though Robbie ran into some wonky issues with his zoom features).
  • Finding the commands for installed applications in Ubuntu so you can create a launcher for Avant Window Navigator's dock bar.
  • Viewer Question:  I'd like a low-cost, low-power video card for my kids to game on, in around the $80 range.  What would you recommend?
  • Understanding the nVidia numbering in lay-terms.
  • Viewer Question:  I can install Kubuntu with Wubi, but not Ubuntu.  What's up with that?  (See Episode 46).
  • Viewer Question:  Can you please explain the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit in Linux?
  • Viewer Question:  How do you get Avant Window Navigator BZR?  (See Episode 36).
  • Viewer Question:  Do you have a Category5 banner I can show on my blog?
  • Viewer Question:  What do you think of the new Google web browser?
  • Introduction to Google's Chrome browser.
  • Viewer Comment:     I'm surprised Google Chrome was released for Windows, but not Mac OS, considering it is based on WebKit.
  • Google Chrome is slow?
  • Viewer Question:  Is Chrome the first browser to have the tabs in separate processes?  Or does Firefox 3 do this too?
  • Feature:  Introducing the 2009 suite of software from Panda Security.  Antivirus Pro, Internet Security, Global Protection.
  • Our ISP threatened to shut us down due to having too many viewers.  (Don't worry; it's been resolved).
  • Viewer Comment:  Soon, they'll ask you to be on "Dancing with the Stars".
  • Viewer Question:  I don't need a virus scanner for Ubuntu.  Right?
  • Viewer Question:  What hardware or software do you use to do your video switching on the show?
  • Viewer Question:  Is ManyCam similar to CamTwist?
  • Viewer Question:  Ubuntu can't detect my WG111b2 wireless device.  Any suggestions?
  • Viewer Question:  My Broadcom wireless card doesn't work either.  Have you found anything about that?  (Check this thread, in which Robbie solved a Broadcom issue for another viewer -- hopefully yours will be the same).

Notes:

Watching back over the show, I realized what I did wrong with the dockbar; I put a space in the name "Dock Bar" when I created the folder in /home/robbie.  I had forgotten during the live demonstration: Avant does not like spaces.  Leave out the space (make it "dockbar") and also do not put spaces in the Launcher name (ie. GIMP instead of "The GIMP" - then, it will work.

Ha - I caught the fact that I called Hardy "7.04"--which would actually be Feisty.  It seems I lost a year in my mind and I really don't have an explanation for why I thought we were in 2007 - haha!

Pricing Update:  There was an error with Panda Security's web-based pricing, which is where we got the pricing from that was mentioned on the show.  The correct pricing is even more significant of a deal:

  • Panda Antivirus Pro 2009 - $39.99 for 3 PCs
  • Panda Internet Security 2009 - $65.99 for 3 PCs
  • Panda Global Protection 2009 - $69.99 for 3 PCs
