  • Feature:  Moving around Gnome's taskbars to make Ubuntu feel a little more like Windows (without all the crashing and swearing).
  • More configuration options for Ubuntu Hardy Heron: Customizing your operating system.

Topics Covered:

  • Viewer Question:  What kind of video card should I buy for my Linux computer?  The onboard video doesn't work very well.
  • Viewer Question:  Is the support for nVidia graphics cards consistent in Linux?
  • Viewer Question:  What are the best 3D games for Linux?
  • Viewer Question:  My neighbors laptop has some major problems; the browser window closes automatically, and I can't uninstall the virus scanner.  What can I do?
  • Viewer Question:  Do you have multiple camera angles?
  • Feature:  Making Ubuntu Hardy Heron (Linux) look and function more like Windows.  Reduce the learning curve for new Linux users by giving them a custom feel that is more like what they're used to.
  • Setting our desktop background to Bliss.
  • Robbie's computer went wonky during this section of the broadcast.  Here's what happened (what you can't see):  Robbie had set up his Super-key to open the Applications menu in Ubuntu.  This broke a ton of his other hotkeys from compiz-fusion.  So after he loaded the virtual machine, some things started going really wrong.  Because the hotkeys were not working, Robbie couldn't restore the system to functional.  Even CTRL-ALT-Backspace did not restart X.  No hotkeys would work.  Then, both CTRL and ALT were closing any open windows; so any chance to restore was out of the question.  A simple reboot of the system reverted everything, as Robbie was running in a protected environment (did not save settings using super-user).  Robbie's cordless trackball mouse also would not reconnect following the reboot--by some amazing fluke, the batteries died.  This was definitely the worst on-air system issue to date.  Quick on his feet, Robbie took the mouse off the Stream Server and ran synergy to control both systems from one mouse.
  • Removing the bottom panel and moving your main Gnome Panel to the bottom of the screen to emulate the Windows Start menu.
  • Adding the Window List to your Gnome Panel so that when you have programs open or minimized, they show up on your taskbar (like Windows).
  • Installing Emerald using Synaptic Package Manager.
  • Viewer Comment:  You're trying to make Linux look more like Windows, but Vista is an attempt to make Windows look more like Linux.
  • Ubuntu Linux's Applications menu; much more organized than the Windows Start menu.
  • Emerald themes no longer available by SVN?  See the Links section below...
  • Viewer Question:  USB drives are not working in VirtualBox.  What can I do to get them to work?
  • Viewer Comment:  The stream is getting choppy again.
  • Installing wine on your Ubuntu Linux system to allow you to run Windows .exe executable files.
  • Viewer Question:  Is there a feature in Linux that is similar to Windows' Task Manager?
  • Setting up CTRL-ALT-DEL to run Gnome System Monitor.
  • Using gconf-editor to setup a key binding in Ubuntu Linux.
  • Setting the Super (Windows logo) key on your keyboard to bring up the applications menu in Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04.
  • Add the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) screensaver to Ubuntu Linux Hardy Heron 8.04 using xscreensaver-data-extra.
  • Manually configuring gnome-screensaver to use only the Windows BSOD.
  • Viewer Comment:  Watch out for the Microsoft henchmen...
  • The advantages of setting up Linux to look and function more like Microsoft Windows.
  • Viewer Comment:  Another nice thing about using Linux is no longer needing to run a defrag on your harddrive.
  • Viewer Question:  How do you play a DVD in DOS 5?
  • Robbie shows off his Toshiba T2200SX - the original "tiny" laptop.

Notes:

The current version of Ultimate Boot CD does in fact include three different antivirus products:  F-Prot for DOS, McAfee and BugHunter

During Episode 49, a viewer commented that during Episode 35 I stated there are no motherboards with both AGP and PCIe, but that ASRock does in fact manufacture such a motherboard.  This is not confirmed, but it is noted none the less.
