Chat room attack leads to moderation and possible lock-down

It is with great disappointment that I have to make this announcement.  For the first time in 61 weeks of broadcasting, we were attacked by a small number of malicious viewers in our live chat room during tonight's live broadcast.  I have always been the type of person to trust people to be respectable and appreciative.  After all, I do what I do here without pay, and I do it for you, the viewers.  Slander, sexually degrading comments and general derogatory statements simply will not be tolerated in our chat room or any other portion of our service.  For 61 weeks, viewers (with the exception of a few) have been incredible in the chat room: respectable, kind and friendly.  For those of you who participate in the chat in this way, I would like to personally thank you for being a part of what Category5.TV represents.  I liked it that I could keep the chat "free" as in freedom.  I liked it that absolutely anyone could just click "Chat" and start participating.  Unfortunately, that has to change thanks to a few malicious users.  Those who were in the chat room at the time know that something needs to be done.  For those of you who were not involved, please know that the coming changes are for the protection of you (the viewers), our hosts, and our guests.

I apologize to all who had to be subjected to the disgusting posts of these malicious users, and especially to our co-host Carrie, and special guest Virginia.

Beginning immediately and as soon as it can be implemented, our chat room will be moderated by persons with the authority to kick and ban malicious users.  We may also force users to register in order to participate in the chat.  We may also move our chat room off ustream.tv and host it ourselves to give us more control over what can and cannot take place within our chat.

Please watch Category5.TV for more details.  I will do my best to make the changes seemless.  Users should note that if they normally use the chat room directly on Ustream's site, that chat may become deprecated, so please begin using the chat via Category5.TV.

Thank you to all the viewers who have sent in their kind comments.  It's hard to have to make this change, as it means removing some of the freedom we've been so proud to offer our viewers.

Sincerely,
Robbie Ferguson, Host
Category5 Technology TV

I am truely sorry you had to witness and deal with the horrible manners of
the trolls that plagued the chat tonight.  Most of us are plesant and polite
people, and it is a shame to have a few rotten apples spoil the pie.

Regards,
Michael

To the ladies watching Category5.tv with Robbie and Carrie.

I know that what you read tonight was bad just know that was a one night
thing and I'm sure that it will not happen again. Robbie takes care of
his viewers and I'm sure that he is working on way to keep that from
happening again.  Please come back next week and give Robbie some time
to fix this.

Chris

Hi Carrie / Virginia,

As someone fairly new to Category 5 tv, I'm really enjoying my
Wednesday mornings (Australia) watching the show and participating in
the chat room. As someone who's been using IRC chat rooms for a long
time I can't begin to tell you how much it frustrates me when immature
idiots post irrelevant comments such as they did today.

I really do hope that you haven't been deterred by the disruptive
behaviour of those individuals in the chat room as you both did a
great job today, and Carrie, you always do a great job co-hosting with
Robbie.

Rest assured, I'll do everything I can to help out in the future!

Thanks,
John

This is to Every one that got offended because of Unacceptable Behavior in  Episode
61. :

Very sorry that you have to deal with this 19yr old kid from Florida behaving bad in
our show.  We all agree on this, Parents do have tough time teaching these kids, how
to respect others.  Hope they will grow up and put their intelligence in Productive
way rather than, disrupting things around.

Thanks and Regards,
mbhavaraju

Robbies chat under a live show or any other chat he runs,
and i apoligize on the behalf  of some ustreamers comming with
inappropriate content towards Virginia or in general in the chatroom at
the time she was in the studio , and i hope she didnt take any mental or
other damage.

Sincerely and humble .
Trond
