(07:11:33 PM) calhydro: I whiched to Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 during the outage
(07:11:35 PM) King_Arthur: I have been putting my routers DNS to 8.8.8.8 which points to google's DNS no issues yet.
(07:11:50 PM) chrisreich: 22 degrees Fahrenheit and dark in Rochester New York...
(07:12:00 PM) GoodGuy: I installed Netsetman on a WinXP Pro system.. It allows you to change network settings easily
(07:12:23 PM) Gadwil: I use OpenDNS.
(07:12:37 PM) calhydro: They Google DNS is faster to resolve addresses, but I don't see the difference
(07:12:44 PM) Gadwil: But it may not be supported by DDWRT.
(07:12:46 PM) GoodGuy: I used to use that, but switched back.. no reason
(07:12:46 PM) agamotto: I am just happy to be away from the bags and bags of toys! I am almost sick of the smell of plastic garbage bags
(07:13:27 PM) agamotto: I moved my router from ATT's supplied DNS to Google and OpenDNS... much more reliable
(07:13:39 PM) ajamison5579: you ought to use the green screen more often robbief
(07:13:41 PM) Gadwil: I am looking for a cheap DDWRT supported router or two now.
(07:14:06 PM) calhydro: Roobie: Get a USB tablet and use the pen to point
(07:14:06 PM) Alexandra_: green screen rocks!
(07:14:08 PM) chrisreich: So my news here is I bought myself my birthday present on Saturday - a Sony e-book reader. I'm loving it.
(07:14:13 PM) agamotto: Linksys WRT54 something... often available at shopgoodwill.com
(07:14:17 PM) GoodGuy: I bought a couple old WRT54G's at garage sales
(07:14:23 PM) agamotto: chrisreich, coolies
(07:14:32 PM) GadgetWisdomGuru: chrisreich: Sony? Really? The Sony Store isn't so good.
(07:14:49 PM) GoodGuy: One is newer and uses VxWorks, but they have a mini version of DD-WRT for those iirc
(07:15:02 PM) agamotto: True, but at least you can put just about anything on a Sony version
(07:15:18 PM) agamotto: 8 min????
(07:15:32 PM) agamotto: Sounds like it is trying to find some 'missing' hardware
(07:15:33 PM) calhydro: Old routers never die just there AC adapters
(07:15:37 PM) chrisreich: The Sony and Borders stores are the only ones that will let you open an account without using a credit card, GadgeWisdomGuru. I bought the reader, not the store.
(07:15:39 PM) GoodGuy: I was going to buy a Boxee Box today, but alot of negative reviews on Amazon, so I cancelled it and decided to wait awhile
(07:15:44 PM) agamotto: calhydro, How true!

(07:21:42 PM) King_Arthur: Empathy supports remote desktop, is that the best option? It has been crashing
(07:21:44 PM) pyrosrock: just do it in the bios

(07:24:33 PM) Ashleyl: iv got a feeling my quetion is coming up soon O:)

(07:25:43 PM) GoodGuy: Usually the restaurant is quiet as a funeral home
(07:25:45 PM) Gadwil: " sudo taskel " and then select LAMP.
(07:25:46 PM) chrisreich: I'll ask agamotto. That could be cool.
(07:26:21 PM) Gadwil: Correction: " sudo tasksel "... and then select LAMP and install.

(07:26:55 PM) chrisreich: I've already used 'calibre' to convert a few PDFs to epub files and confirmed I can read them on the e-reader.
(07:27:02 PM) Gadwil: Ashleyl, What guy? Who?
(07:27:09 PM) Ashleyl: not robbie the other one :P

(07:28:01 PM) Ashleyl: i guess :L
(07:28:09 PM) SammySez: huh. able to see the video using Chrome, but IE8 doesn't even try. Imagine that.

(07:29:11 PM) chrisreich: that's a good way to run servers agamotto.
(07:29:24 PM) SammySez: If you don't want LAMP appliance, XAMPP works great with Portable Apps flash drives as a full development app / web server. I love XAMPP.
(07:29:32 PM) howefield left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving).
(07:29:38 PM) Cory`: Can anyone tell me what he said to speed up 10.04 boot?
(07:30:13 PM) agamotto: prefetching?
(07:30:26 PM) Cory`: no
(07:30:29 PM) SammySez: XAMPP is available for download at portableapps.com. Includes a .BAT file for flash drive installs under Windows.
(07:30:35 PM) Cory`: it was something to do w/ grub.conf I think
(07:30:39 PM) Cory`: and quiet
(07:30:51 PM) Gadwil: I am trying to set up a Moodle server for my teacher now. But their .tgz files won't extract using TAR.
(07:30:53 PM) Gadwil: :(
(07:31:08 PM) SammySez: what's up with the curtains and the pot holders in the background? can practically smell the pumpkin pie from here.
(07:31:12 PM) agamotto: Ahh, I believe it is something like adding -splash -ro -quiet
(07:31:37 PM) agamotto: Robbie wanted to offer us a view of the back yard?
(07:31:56 PM) lanceman: SammySez I think those are stockings not potholders.
(07:31:57 PM) Cory`: Hey RobbieF, what did you say about making 10.04 boot quicker?
(07:32:13 PM) Gadwil: Cory', I would try to use a SSD to do that.
(07:32:17 PM) agamotto: Gadwil, .tgz is gzip, no?
(07:32:23 PM) chrisreich: with FreeBSD you just set up a jail for each server and don't need the overhead of virtual machines.
(07:32:49 PM) SammySez: used Xming / putty in Windows for X11 forwarding for 1st time this week. Pretty cool. I did not know there also was a "-X" switch in the Ubuntu ssh client that allows super easy X11 forwarding from Linux to Linux boxes.
(07:32:56 PM) chrisreich: But FreeBSD is not anywhere near as popular as Linux; it doesn't get the press.
(07:33:01 PM) Gadwil: agamotto, not sure, their Docs said to execute " sudo tar -xzf moodle20(other Junk).tgz "
(07:33:08 PM) SammySez: lanceman - you're right. ty
(07:33:13 PM) blakkheim: Cory`: sudo vi /etc/default/grub and look at the "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX" line, edit that and run sudo update-grub
(07:33:30 PM) agamotto: Gadwil, that does look like the correct string, yes....
(07:33:32 PM) lanceman: SammySez np

(07:34:12 PM) Cory`: blakkheim, I know that much, I wanted to know which options he said about
(07:34:15 PM) chrisreich: SammySez they had me fooled; I couldn't understand how they still had daylight up there.
(07:34:24 PM) SammySez: they do?
(07:34:27 PM) Dman810: Hello all
(07:34:31 PM) agamotto: Ahhhh, in that case, try the -xvf swtiches
(07:34:33 PM) SammySez: or is that a really good green screen?
(07:34:36 PM) blakkheim: Gadwil: you only need "tar xf"
(07:34:52 PM) chrisreich: How about "It's Rainin' Men"?
(07:35:01 PM) SammySez: must be greenscreen since RF is sitting in front of a 104" plasma at the moment
(07:35:04 PM) agamotto: Halelujah!
(07:35:10 PM) Gadwil: blakheim, Will try that, booting the VM now to get the exact error.

(07:38:05 PM) Ashleyl: is it just me getting lagg?
(07:38:17 PM) Cory`: ist cutting out a lot
(07:38:20 PM) Gadwil: My error is " tar: stdin: not in gzip format ".. first line, other one is " child returned status 1 " and then exiting due to failures.
